About the Author

John spent the first ten years of his life in a small English village. First-class jobs were very hard to come by in a sleepy rural community and so his parents moved to Cardiff, Wales, where they knew good jobs were abundant. They also knew that a good education was essential if he was to gain an advantage over the many other students who would be seeking first time employment. They taught him how to stand out above the rest and grab the attention of the hiring team. It was a lesson he learnt well. When he graduated from school he was in the enviable position of being able to choose from six quality jobs. He finally chose to join the local G.K.N. steelworks, as an apprentice engineer. He continued in college and gained a degree. He was never very contented however and in 1980 he quit the steel company and moved instead into retail management. He joined Asda, a leading supermarket chain in the United Kingdom and quickly progressed through the ranks. In 1997 he moved to the United States of America and continued in retail management with Family Dollar Inc.

At the time of writing, John has spent over twenty-five years in retail, much of which was in the human resource sector.
