About the Book

If mystery and fast-paced science fiction are what you're looking for, then this book is for you. This story has just the right mix -- an intriguing cast of characters, a tightly woven futuristic plot and mounting tensions -- all set in exotic Australian locations. The story evokes strong visual reader responses and entertains on many levels.

Carrie Storm, a single mother and network journalist, returns home from an assignment to be told that her teenage daughter Jordan is the victim of a hit and run accident. On arrival at the Royal Sydney North Shore Hospital, Carrie discovers that Jordan, severely injured, was just abducted from the ICU ward and is not expected to survive her injuries. No one knows how the kidnapping was carried out. When police inquiries stall, the journalist decides to investigate herself. Determined to find her daughter, Carrie embarks on a chilling journey that leads her through the most isolated parts of Australia, closely trailed by executives from a mysterious transnational corporation and agents from the world's most powerful security agency, the CIA. Nothing can prepare Carrie for what she finds.

Readers' Comments

"This gripping tale unfolds in a stark, harrowing landscape that is at once otherworldly and eerily authentic. The author's vision of the Australian outback is compelling, a vivid backdrop for events with the all the force of a tidal wave into a bizarre alternate universe. A fascinating read.

-Constance Buchanan, editor of Tom Clancy's The Hunt for Red October.

"Although I'm an avid reader, it isn't often I pick up a science-fiction novel, but I'm certainly glad I did so in the case of this new book: 'Cracks In The Fabric'. Ole's earthy, fast-paced, colloquial style transports you not only into an intriguing future, but from steamy and exotic wildernesses to the streetscapes of the metropolis. From Australia to the US and back again. This dramatic and thought-provoking story really gets you in as it foretells the awesome outcomes of many current world issues and bio-technology research programs. This futuristic tale involving park-rangers, journos, CIA operatives, scientific boffins and their subhuman creations, kept me interested and reading right up to the incredible, but touching climax, and I have no hesitation in recommending it to all who enjoy a good yarn that extends their imagination into realms it's never gone to before."

-Peter Sumner. Perth, Western Australia

"This story is about relationships and is poignantly developed by the author to bring emotive credibility to a futuristic theme that is commensurate to contemporary technological breakthroughs and the meta-physical. I found the story riveting; a fantastic journey in realistic imagery that makes the book impossible to put down. In reading this book, I constantly could not help seeing the whole concept coming alive on screen."

-Jean J Pontre B.Sc. App Sci; Grad Dip. Bus. GM Unimed Australia
