An amazing yet little known and easy-to-read story of two newly formed Union regiments led by General Joshua Chamberlain during the final year of America's bloody Civil War.
About the Book
"Honor answering honor." Over the years, much has been written and movies have been made around the wartime life of Colonel Joshua L. Chamberlain and his heroics as commander of the 20th Maine Volunteers. Hidden within the shadows of his fame lies an incredible story few have heard, as Chamberlain is promoted from the 20th Maine to take command of a brigade. In short time, his new command consists of two newly formed regiments, which Chamberlain leads during the final year of America's bloody Civil War. This is the story of those two regiments, who under direction of now General Chamberlain, are credited with spearheading the break of the nine-month siege around Petersburg and the pursuit of Confederate General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia to Appomattox Court House, Virginia. A chase, whose historic climactic end results in the surrender of the Confederacy's largest army and ultimately leads to the end of the war itself.
This easy-to-read wartime saga, told in large part by the soldiers themselves, brings forward their story for the sole purpose of bestowing upon them the honor they so greatly deserve. Here is that incredible story that, until now, has somehow fallen through the cracks of history.
About the Author
Born in Philadelphia in April of 1957 into a family rich with American history, including frontiersmen to a U.S. President, there was never a lack of family history to inspire Jeffrey Wood. Growing up in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, just miles from the site that gave birth to a new nation, Jeff has always had a love for American history. One of six children born to William and Julia Wood, the family would enjoy yearly road trip vacations across the United States to see and learn about our great nation and discover its hidden beauty.
Jeff married in 1982 his supportive wife Diane and has three fantastic children: Christina, David and Jacqueline, two beautiful grandchildren: Michaela, Joey and son-in-law Joseph. Jeff has lived a very fulfilled life of family, adventures, and travel.
Inspired by his Great-G-Grandfather, who served in the 198th Pennsylvania Volunteers and wanting to understand more about his wartime life, Jeff started his researching in 1994. Dedicating thirteen years towards that researching and the writing of Under Chamberlain's Flag was a challenge for Jeff as he juggled family life, career and the time needed to complete such a massive project. During those years, Jeff enlisted as a Civil War re-enactor in order to enhance his writing skills to bring forth this story in an easy-to-read and understand format as seen through a Civil War soldier's eyes.
In 2003, Jeff relocated to Boise, Idaho to pursuit his "dream job" with HP as a Technical Marketing Engineer where today he helps design LaserJet Printers.
