About the Author

Domingo M. Perera González, was born on April 26 of 1949 in the village of Caraballo, province of Havana.

He was incarcerated in Cuba several times, because of several attempts to escape the country illegally and reach the United States, on different rafts that he built himself. On August 18, 1994, he embarked on his fourth trip, on a raft, in the company of his daughter and nine other Cubans. A few miles away from Key West, the raft was intercepted by a US Navy coastguard vessel that transferred him to a war ship, and in turn this took him to Guantanamo Naval Base. He was retained there for a year, where he worked of his own accord, and also wrote. He arrived to the United States on medical parole on August 17 of 1995.

He has never participated of mass organizations or to the only (communist) political party of his country.

In the year 1963, when he was but 13 years old, he was initiated in the Institution called "Children of Light", where he acquired the rank of Master.

After that, on September 3 of the year 1966, he was initiated in the Order of "Knight of Light", and as of August 24, of the year 1971, he is a member of the "Masonic Institution". Throughout the years during which he participated in said Order, he has been designated, due to his Masonic merits:

MEMBER OF HONOR of the Respectable Lodge "REDEMPTION" located in the city of Jaruco.

ILUSTRIOUS SON of his own Lodge, after his exile that began on August 17 of 1995.

Active member of the Respectable Lodge: MÁRTIRES DE LA CABAÑA belonging to: FEDERACION DE MASONES CUBANOS EXILIADOS (Cuba First) in the city of Miami. Besides, he is an active member of the Philosophic Bodies, and has reached the 33nd rank.
