About the Book About the Author Excerpts Catalogue Information

About the Book

The book is not about routines, control or discipline. There are no rigid rules or unresearched opinions; only guidance based on professional knowledge, experience and the many extensive studies carried out by well-respected and published workers in the field of caring for mother's babies and families

It is informative, reassuring, evidence based but containing some anecdotes and quotations from other authors. The reader is treated with respect and given the information needed to make informed choices.

The advice in the book will not be conflicting or confusing, and will be in line with the advice midwives and health visitors are trained to give new parents in the UK.

The guidelines of the World Health Association, UNICEF and the Foundation for the Study of Infant deaths, have been used in the breastfeeding and safety chapters.

About the Author

Maureen Gannon is a retired midwife, mother and grandmother, with a special interest and expertise in the newborn baby. She has cared for babies and their families in hospital and home.

She has had a lifetime's involvement with parents and young babies, both privately and professionally and has kept up-to-date, continuing to grow in knowledge on a daily basis. During her professional and private life she has identified a need for a baby book with information for today*s busy parents, not seen in baby books currently in the marketplace.

"A consummate professional with a wealth of experience and a constant quest to update her knowledge."

GERRY CHAUVEAU, mother of three.

"Her knowledge and understanding of babies is second-to-none."

WIZ GOSWELL, mother of two

"It is a whole scary unknown world for the new parent, and Maureen's book gives you the confidence to understand practically the newborn baby's signs and needs and neither preaches nor gives rigid rules but instead practical advice to understand.

Maureen Gannon's book offers a soft, clear and ultimately totally professional route to give such confidence on how to help and keep the baby safely through its early days to the new parent who can easily feel over-whelmed by the new life to protect."
