About the Book

Scripture is the basis for this happy family story targeted for 5 to 10 year olds. The lifelike illustrations portray the ancient journey to Jerusalem compared with the present-day celebration of Palm Sunday. This story is good supplementary material for a religious education curriculum.

Reviews

Share the keen observational skills of writer Bonnie G. Molloy as she reveals the joy of small wonders. This series of books about key spiritual symbols, angels and crosses, is told from the candid perspective of a child's understanding of the church and God's world. Bonnie captures the distractions and curiosities of young children who are beginning their quest for more knowledge of some of God's greatest gifts: His messengers (angels) and His ultimate sacrifice on the cross. Children will learn, as the young boys in the stories did, how angels are God's messengers and how Palm Sunday is the exciting procession of God's son. Maybe adults will learn something, too! D.M.

If you are looking for spiritual literature for your young children which teaches the meaning of Christmas and the Palm Sunday celebration in a simple way that your child can relate to, then I recommend Ms. Molloy's books, "The Hidden Angel" and "Palm Sunday Surprises." These books are perfect for reading aloud to your young child or for a grade school reader. In each book the setting of the story is inside Church and the main characters, two cousins named James and Jacob, are themselves learning about these cherished Christian Holy Days. In the midst of learning about each Holy Day, they have a dilemma to solve, and in doing so the author weaves in the Bible Truths she wishes to impart to the character as well as to the reader and to the listening child. The prose is easy, whimsical, and is colorfully illustrated further stimulating interaction with the story and between the reader and child. These books will be a great addition to your child's spiritual library. ----Paulette Ivy Harris----author of Always a Blessing in the End

About the Author

During my childhood I can remember loving the traditions of Palm Sunday. I sang in the children's choir created solely for this time of year. It was an honor to participate. I especially liked the hymns about children singing hosannas! Even the waving of a palm fascinated me. Today we save our palms for one year by hanging them over the family cross.

Our grandsons with biblical first names seemed to be once again the perfect match for this second family story. The previous book was The Hidden Angel, published in 2005.

My reason for writing about Palm Sunday is that I have great difficulty in finding children's literature on this subject. I like to read spiritual stories to my grandchildren. I can remember sharing these same tales with previous Sunday school students including toddlers!

Children are my business. I respect their thinking. I love their pure and innocent ideas unaffected by society. This happy book is written for them... the children of the world.

About the Illustrator

As a native of the U.K., I now live in Alicante Province, Spain, with my husband, Michael. Being self-taught, I love to draw and paint as a hobby. I prefer using watercolors to paint flowers and birds. I also enjoy drawing with pen and ink.

I have painted book covers for my friend and pen-pal in the U.S.A. and have fully illustrated her first book, The Hidden Angel, published in 2005. It is fun to work together even though the artist and writer are oceans apart.

After Christmas, Holy Week is the most special time in church. I always love receiving a cross made from palm branches every Palm Sunday.

I've raised three daughters and presently have five grandchildren.

I'm an avid reader and think that it's important for children to own books, to read, draw, paint, or simply look at pictures in a book.

I love to walk and travel having visited Europe, the U.S.A., and South Africa.

Presently, my travels are back to the U.K. and Switzerland to visit family and friends.
