About the Book

Pearl Harbor, Hawaii during the heady days of World War II engendered a mystique that Cora Tanabe, a Japanese-American girl exemplified. At a camp dance, she meets Richard Kline, G.I., from Wisconsin. Romance, marriage and a move to a small Wisconsin town. She has a daughter. Richard dies in a car accident. A move to Chicago and life with a sculptor follow. Cora returns to Hawaii, this time to recapture the dream of Pearl Harbor.



About the Author

The author was born in Hilo, Hawaii to a fisherman father and a picture-bride mother from Japan. She lived in Hawaii during the 1920s and 1930s and in the 1940s moved to Chicago where she completed her education. Presently she lives in Denver, Colorado. Her other books are Once, a Lotus Garden and From the Lanai & Other Hawaii Stories, both translated into Japanese.
