About the Book

Islam: Faith and People takes its readers into the lives of Muslims and shows them their daily routines and practices of faith as well as the Christian-Judeo connections to Islam.

Islam: in Arabic, means "submission"- submission to the will of God. Faithful Muslims believe that theirs is the only true faith. Islam was revealed through a long line of prophets inspired by God. Among them are Ibrahim (Abraham), through his first son Isma'il (Ishmael), Musa (Moses), who received the Torah (Tawrah), Dawud (David), who spoke through the Psalms (Zabur), and Isa (Jesus), who brought the Gospels (Injil). But the full and final revelation came through Muhammad, the last of all prophets who received the Qur'an (Kitabu Allah) or Book of God.

The book examines the cultural and religious practices of Muslims, from their daily greetings, to their sacred traditions, covering the main holidays and famous five pillars of faith that all Muslims must live by. Topics discussed include Ramadan, the Pilgrimage or Hajj in Arabic, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Adha, praying, definitions words, common Arabic phrases, and color photos of Muslims practicing their faith.

About the Author

Eraqi Hassan Eraqi was born and raised in a devout Muslim family in Egypt until he moved to the United States in 1978. He graduated with a Masters Degree in Education from Wayne State University Detroit, Michigan (USA) in 1984, and shortly after that, began teaching in Hamtramck Public Schools, Hamtramck, Michigan.
