About the Book About the Author Excerpts Catalogue Information About the Book
True accounts of earning a black belt in one of the most notorious martial art cults in the U.S. from beginning as a white belt, progressing through the ranks until reaching instructor. Joe Smith describes what it was like to train, earn rank and finally leave organizations known as Chung Moo Quan (later Chung Moo Doe and now called Oom Yung Doe).
Through additional observations of friends and colleagues over the years, Joe provides accounts of the training methods, practices and forms as well as the cult dogma, and reveals the cult has continued to evolve post federal investigations even with the departure of the most trusted members. Plus tales of wacky adventures for those thinking of earning a real black belt in a "royal style."
About the Author
'Joe Smith' was a student and later a black belt 'certified instructor' in the martial arts cult known as Chung Moo Quan, which later changed its name to Chung Moo Doe, and then again to Oom Yung Doe. These are true stories of joining a martial arts cult, training hard and finally reaching what was supposedly a level of accomplishment; then watching the leaders go to jail for believing in a false prophet as a result of one of the largest federal tax fraud cases ever tried in Illinois.
Joe lives comfortably in a small town in northern Guatemala, with his family and large hungry dogs, enjoys manatee watching, fast food drive-thru and practices Tai Chi regularly.
