About the Book About the Author Excerpts Catalogue Information

About the Book

The Permanent Temp is a book that deals with the new paradigms of contract or temporary employment as an alternative to the permanent job. The author pulls his concepts from over twenty-five years of experiences as a contract engineer. He has lived the permanent temp life and from these varied jobs has set down ideas and recommendations that will help the reader to become a temp worker with better insights that make this life strategy more beneficial and profitable.

The introduction presents the permanent job life and compares it to the more flexible and rewarding path of temping. It points to the advantages of having many jobs that continuously sharpens those who wish to be the best qualified and trained employees of the new millenium.

The word paradigm is overused these days and there are many examples that illustrate changes. Often the opportunity to get on board, to ride the new changes, are over and done long after we have learned that the paradigm is over. Now the new job paradigm is in the making and the author helps those who are looking for a change how to best get on board.

The status of temping is improving and the stigma associated with it is waning. Employers use temps to suit their immediate needs and temps can do the same. They do it for the experiences, the up-to-date training form the job and higher incomes.

About the Author

If you read Ted Kalal's resume you'd think he was 200 years old by the vast number of jobs he shows on his six page resume. He has spent most of his professional career as a temporary employee, so much so it's if he was a permanent temp.

He was a technical writer, electronics technician, designer, manufacturer, quality control engineer, reliability engineer, bouncer and a stock broker, to name just a few.

He's enjoyed the variety of the many job experiences. In taking a lot of jobs he has developed practical strategies for getting that "next" job and the next one and the next. By applying the methods described in his writing you too can have permanence too - in income but perhaps not the job.
