About the Book

In this poetry/picture book the narrator and her rooster companion find lots of reasons not to get up in the morning. Simple watercolor illustrations follow the co-conspirators through the twists and turns of a good night's sleep.

About the Author

Author and illustrator Dell James lives in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with her husband, three children, two grandchildren, four grand-dogs, one grand-cat and one grand-bunny. Dell has written for newspapers and magazines and taught writing to various ages, but she had never painted until recently. One of her old report cards says, "Dell says she can't draw and won't try." Two years ago she decided to try and this is her first book.

Dell grew up in Martinsville, Virginia, attended Swarthmore College and graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. She actually likes to get up in the morning and go to bed with the birds. But that's another story.
