The Foreign Pawn

by Lee Yagel

282 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #06-1075; ISBN 1-4120-9321-X; US$21.50, C$24.73, EUR17.66, £12.36

The Foreign Pawn is a gripping Cold War story of espionage and political betrayal, sex and love, set against a harsh Siberian backdrop and atrocious Russian Gulags, with twists and turns, and final redemption.

About the Book

During a dark period the Cold War threatens to turn hot. Western Nations and the Soviet Union are locked in a clandestine game of checks and counter-checks, escalating towards the ultimate nuclear showdown.

Russia has nuclear bombs and bombers secretly poised somewhere on its northern coast capable of reaching the United States and England. The Western Powers must know how many and precisely where.

It's a cloak and dagger game of international chess between America and the Western World versus Russia and her Soviet satellites. Spies and counter-spies of all types and styles, in the air and on the ground, are the catalyst which prevents the precarious balance of power from becoming one final checkmate.

Three very elite secret warriors are on a mission so sensitive it could ignite World War III. They are caught, convicted of espionage, and thrown into the infamous Russian Gulags of Siberia.

During a twisted window of fate one survives. Later, in an astonishing and mind-bending climax, he suddenly explodes onto the world's chessboard, positioned to topple a sovereign government - and a sitting president.
