About the Book About the Author Excerpts About the Book
During World War II there was a conscious effort on the part of the military to downplay the contributions of African Americans. These "invisible soldiers" did contribute to the final victory. You may have heard about the Tuskegee airmen and the 761st Panther Tank Battalion, but nothing was mentioned about the contribution of the African Americans who served in combat with separate artillery and anti-aircraft battalions. This book is intended to bring to the forefront the combat histories of twelve of those units. One of the units distinguished itself at the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Distinguished Unit Citation for its actions at Bastogne.
