A young immigrant woman of the 1900's roots out the courage to survive the shocking murder of her illigitimate child and to restore her faith to love again.
About the Book
In a startling blend of historical fact and fiction, the author recreates the transforming journey of Kaisa Touri from a spirited young immigrant of the 1900's to a woman, forever changed and eventually strengthened by the horrific event that slams down upon her, with the intensity of a Midwest tornado, on the muggy dusk of a brilliant summer day.
Bursting with possibilities and blessed with a sharp mind, keen humor and a hearty, industrious soul, Kaisa roars into the new century. Shame and betrayal soon dampen her spirits when she finds herself jilted and pregnant. She sets out to achieve redemption, restore her self esteem and seek love a second time, when the downside of destiny strikes her again. It comes in the form of pure evil.Trapped in darkness and despair, Kaisa experiences a loss so brutal, she can barely find the breath to go on living.
Sisu, another word for indomitable spirit, is Kaisa's inspiring story of coming face to face with an unspeakable tragedy, of her spiral downward, and her climb back up to recovery. It is a powerful tale of a soul dying and reawakening. It is finally a poignant celebration of the healing power of love. Sisu is a story of profound devotion between mother and child and husband and wife. It is set in an explosive time when women are secretly banding together to fight for equal rights, when war is on the doorstep and a deadly flu epidemic is wreaking havoc across a burgeoning America.
