About the Book

Day Lily: A Chicoteague Pony’s Journey is the story of a wild pony, written from her point of view. She tells about living on Assateague Island. She describes the roundup, the swim, and the auction during Pony Penning. She returns to the island to live with her wild herd for a few months. While there, she makes new friends and survives a hurricane. After a second roundup, Day Lily is taken to Maine to live with Karen, the woman who bought her at the auction.

At the end of the long, frightening journey to Maine, she has a dream of a past life that she and Karen shared together. In the dream, Karen was a Native American and Day Lily was her favorite horse. Both badly wounded as they are searching for their tribe’s stolen horses, Day Lily saves Karen form drowning and carries her back to safely back to the tribe.

Not understanding the meaning behind the dream, Day Lily remains wary of Karen in her new home. She bonds with Muffin her new pony friend, Muffin, in her happy way, teaches her about the wonderful advantages of living with people. Day Lily also experiences winter for the first time.
