A decision is made and no one questions why. There's a flaw in the plan, but no one dares to speak. As the danger grows, their silence may drown out any hope of survival.
About the Book
A lonely queen and her loyal subject are confronted with a decision that threatens to alter the course of life as they know it. From what she began, to what he feels he must finish, their worlds will collide to create a void that will engulf the presence of everyone around them.
Can they resolve the difference in their perspective in order to save the lives of those around them?
Only time will tell as time is running out.
The Brave Little Bee is an allegorical tale of caution by observational artist Michael Rhys Scott. It questions the nature of fear and its ability to prevent us from reacting in times of great peril.
In the tradition of Watership Down, this short fable explores the struggle every adult must face in a world that can often be too afraid to care.
Presented in the guise of a children’s bedtime story, this modern day tale is quite the exception.
Whether its use is for entertainment, a tool of reference or simply instructional, this is a story that will inspire discourse among anyone who sees the parallels within its meaning and the fear that lies within all of us.
Book View
As readers, our primary instincts encourage us to identify with the protagonist or hero of the story. What is unique about the story of The Brave Little Bee is that everyone can, in some way, identify with more than one of the characters and their motivation.
Regardless of the character’s intent, an observer can, at some point, recall a time within their own lives when they may have exhibited actions that could be viewed as unjust or simply reactionary. By observing the perspective of each individual character, readers gain the ability to extract a meaning of focus for themselves that could, hopefully, lead to more responsible decision making in the future.
About the Author

Michael Rhys Scott is native North Carolinian, who at the age of twenty abruptly abandoned his plans to pursue a career in marketing and graphic design to find a more meaningful existence within the modern competitive market.
-"I simply could not fathom making a living by visually enticing people to want to buy things that may otherwise have been of little consequence or had no relevance to their personal lives."
It was through his experiences in working with children and in other fields of occupational labor that he came to understand his true place as an artistic interpreter of the average citizen's daily struggles.
-"I was so sheltered and detached. Also, I had never held an actual job up until my departure from grade school. It was important for me that I learned how to stand on my own without the support of my family or an institution."
Although it was a terrifying leap, it was a decision he felt, ultimately, brought him back in touch with his true nature.
-"It was like removing blinders and seeing the world for the first time. Whether we are parents or not, these kids (all children) are our future and average workers are the foundation of our society. They should be our first and foremost priority. Without them, the rest of us would not have the free time to engage in the specialized fields that modern society has to offer. And without well nurtured children, well… who will hold tight to the reigns of all we have built? "
Now, every time he hones his tools of artistic expression to visually say what many have lost the strength to acknowledge, he says he feels as though it brings him closer to the source of his human spirit.
-"Since the age of 11, I always maintained that I would to use my artistic abilities to create something meaningful and be of service to my fellow man. I am thankful everyday for the experiences that have led me down this path."
I know now that people were meant to collaborate as a group to create better lives for themselves. We're not here to serve only ourselves. I thank God that I have been allowed the opportunity to find that delicate balance within myself that helps me use my natural skills to continue that tradition."
Mr. Scott is also the founder of the Your Voice Journal and the forthcoming Your Voice On-Line, a resource for working citizens to remain informed about issues that effect the quality of their lives.
Writer's Comments about the Book
"With this story, I wanted people to understand that fear is not simply an emotion that makes us weak. For me, that is an opinion based purely upon perception.
I'd rather readers use the story to investigate and attempt to understand the various manifestations that fear can take. It is an instinctual mechanism that can either trigger a rationale for defense or hinder our ability to see the big picture.
Every emotion we've been given, I feel, has a purpose and a power to challenge our inner selves. They can either make us stronger or show us our limitations as individuals.
All in all, I believe it is the valuable lessons we are able to learn from our own experiences and the experiences of others that will determine our level of endurance as individuals and as a collective. It's simply a matter of time and how long we can hold on without too much suffering. After all, nothing is forever."
