There are two pages of preface notes written by a specialist teacher experienced in the art of imparting language skills to young children. Written in plain language, the notes give suggestions and hints about using the book with children.

Each verse has a short story to tell about everyday happenings that curious minds encounter and wonder about. From Annie, Andy and Annabelle Ant, to Max and Mr. Wheeze, the Phonics Kids and their friends pictured throughout the book, think about things, imagine wonderful activities and even worry about the wild west wind. It has a wealth of material that is useful in social studies, science and for improving reading awareness. It is a fun way to learn the initial alphabet sounds and get a sense of the rhythm of poetry.

About the Author and Illustrator


Author W.L. Gordon James has always had an interest in language as well as business and education, which he applied for many years as the Superintendent of Business for a major board of education, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

His experience teaching piano to young people helped him realize that a firm foundation in language is essential for a child's progress in the Arts.

His combination of English, Business and Music degrees led to the ideas of rhythm and meter used in this book.

Illustrator Betty James is a former elementary school teacher. As a lifelong educator, her career has emphasized the need to instill inyoung children the skills and rewards of reading.

She believes that the teaching of early language is a necessary art for any future education al development.

The illustrations in this book focus on early learning and on the creation of imaginative associations about the experiences of young people.
