I was born a farmers daughter, and developed a deep respect, and some empathy with the horses, which helped me through life's good times and sad. Always short of money but the horses never suffered because of that. My dear Old Socks died peacefully in his sleep. He was thirty-eight. Flicka had also died of old age, peacefully, in his sleep, which is how I have always hoped my horses would go.
