Dub's Diary: Of World War Two

by Dub Littlefield with Larry Lee

63 pages; Black coil; catalogue #06-1748; ISBN 1-4120-9991-9; US$11.83, C$13.60, EUR9.22, £6.11

A personal look into the daily life of a sailor in World War II.

About the Book

W. C Dub Littlefield dropped out of his senior year at Friendship High School of Oklahoma after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He went right into the U.S. Navy as soon as he could. He joked in the later years telling us the recruiter told him Pearl Harbor was a stripper working in Hawaii and he would see to it he got to see her. He got to see Pearl Harbor but she wasn't all that pretty. After serving in WWII and Korea he married my mother in 1953. Dub passed away at age 66 in 1990 my mom Lena Littlefield passes in 2004 at the age 80. In 2006 I discovered Dubs WWII diary. Through the diary I learned things about Dub I never knew through 37 years as his stepson. He just never talked about his wartime experiences.

I hope the average reader finds his diary half as interesting as I did. That may be too much to ask, but I hope everyone that reads it enjoys it.

About the Author

To better enjoy Dub's Diary, I think it would be helpful to really know who Dub is; W.C. "Dub" Littlefield was born in Friendship, Oklahoma on February 13, 1924. Friendship is a small town just outside Atlus, Oklahoma in Jackson County.

Dub joined the U.S. Navy just after Pearl Harbor was bombed. I don't think he was out of high school yet, but he got his diploma after the war. He served in both World War II and Korea. After Korea he married my mother in June of 1953. I was seventeen at the time he died at the age of 66 on March 2, 1990.

Sixteen years after his death I found his World War II diary. In the thirty-seven years as my stepdad he never spoke of his war times and experiences. In all his years of marriage to my mother we all lived in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

My name is Larry Lee. I have attempted to compile Dub's diary into a book. I guess this makes both of us the book's authors. In our thirty-seven year relationship Dub Littlefield, "my stepdad", was the only member in my nuclear family who treated me with respect.

I guess you can say I miss him more than ever, more than I thought I would.

He started working for Oklahoma Gas and Electric, as an electric lineman. OG & E was a profit-shared company, which provided for this family very well.
