About the Book About the Author Excerpts

About the Book

Halloween in Golden Gate Park is a fantasy book for children pre-kindergarten through 5th grade. It shows interesting places in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Real and imaginary creatures transform after dark in order to celebrate Halloween together. Giant spiders drop down from trees and a witch cooks us some stew. Frogs, grasshoppers, and crickets form a marching band with instruments in hand. Fish and ducks grow in size. The ducks waddle proudly along while the fish balance and walk on their tail fins to the festivities. A pumpkin man on his white horse rides down Strawberry Hill to join the others in eating, drinking, and dancing. They all dance until the clock strikes twelve and Halloween is over. Everything disappears, returns to normal, and fog clouds over the moon.

About the Author

I wrote the story for my five children who enjoyed going to the park on weekends. They were surprised that the park contained the entrance to a mansion once housed on Russian hill, as well as many lakes, hills, and a man made waterfall.

Golden Gate park is a favorite spot for the children in and around San Francisco. I took my students to several of the places mentioned in the books when I was a teacher in the city. They all enjoyed listening to the story, and looking at the pictures, which my husband and I created.
