Don't Give Up: Your Breakthrough Is Just Around the Corner

by Yvonne A. Irving

159 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #06-1833; ISBN 1-4251-0076-7; US$26.50, C$29.90, EUR21.50, £15.50

With God's help, you can achieve anything you need and/or desire in life. Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, he can achieve. With God all things are possible.

About the Book

We are living in an era where we are faced with various kinds of situations. We are experiencing trials, tests, sufferings, stress, and at times we feel like giving up on life. At times the situation becomes so unbearable that we lose control and do things that we wish we had never done.

The author shares with her readers numerous experiences of tests and trials that she encountered while living at home and working in the business environment. She seeks to demonstrate that by exercising faith in God, and taking Him at His Word will cause Him to come through for you ON TIME.

The book shows how God dealt with Yvonne through her challenges. Persons who are waiting on a breakthrough in their situation, those who feel like they're at a crossroad in their lives, those undergoing persecution, tests and trials, those who lack faith, hope and confidence, young converts in the Christian faith, those who need inspiration, will all be encouraged and uplifted as a result of reading this book.

At times you become complacent, due to fear of the unknown. When you are faced with a situation in which you are uncomfortable, you must do some analysis and ask yourself, "Is this what I want? Is this where I would really like to be?" If the answer is no, you have to move on with your life.

We have to get out of the box and out of our comfort zone. Unless you start going through the tunnel, you will never know what is at the end of the road for you. Be willing to venture out and experience change.

The author highlights numerous instances of God's faithfulness and love, and show that when you love and honour God, He in turn honours you. He cares even about the very little details of our lives.

The author's philosophy is "Whatever the mind of man conceive and believe, he can achieve. With God all things are possible."

Reviews of the Book Launch

Sybile Hamil - Kingston, Jamaica

How did you find the book?
The book is a very heart-to-heart talk about one person's walk with the Lord. The material is very good. Persons who read it will be encouraged in their walk as well.

What emotions were felt while reading this book?
The emotions were positive. In a number of sections one wanted to see what would come next.

Is there any particular story that stood out?
The story of Yvonne's mother; her struggles and her ultimate triumph, in the long run. Making decisions about purchasing the car. The challenges of having to wait for the neighbour's daughter to drive in before Yvonne could park her car. Overall, how God dealt with Yvonne through her challenges, stood out. The spiritual warfare in the workplace also resonates with my own experiences.

Would you encourage anyone to read this book, and why?

I would encourage persons to read this book because it speaks to the struggles and triumphs of life. I would definitely encourage young persons to read it. Yvonne's faith in God, and her self-abandonment to Him is tremendous. The message that God cares about every little thing in our lives - getting a mango; the need for us Christians to become pregnant with the things of God and our relationship with Him are ways in which we can be truly encouraged.

Fitz Taylor - St. Catherine, Jamaica

How did you find the book?
I was impressed by the frankness and sincerity of the author. She obviously was on a mission.

What emotions were felt while reading this book?
A sense of joy and satisfaction..like a breath of fresh air. Also it evoked a degree of anger with the unkindness and heartlessness of her landlords. I shared her joys and sorrows.

Is there any particular story that stood out?
Yes. The problems with parking her car and the robbery on the bus.

Would you encourage anyone to read this book, and why?
I definitely would, because there are many thousands of young people who are enduring hardships in achieving economic and spiritual stability in third world countries as well as in the developed countries. This book reinforces the Christian message of hope in a world of seeming hopelessness.

Dottline Hunter - Kingston, Jamaica

How did you find the book?
Very inspiring and motivating, because of the life experiences shared. I was privileged to have read the book, given to me by my Aunt Lus. She allowed me to read this book first. I am so blessed by it, and could identify with so many of the challenges the author cited. I must commend Yvonne for taking on the challenge, and I was particularly pleased to have learned that Mrs. Sybile Hamil worked with her. She mentioned a number of persons that I know personally- her family doctor, and the last family she stayed with on Orchid Path - the Hamiltons. That happened to be the place my eldest brother rented when he was living in Kingston.

What emotions were felt while reading this book?
Sadness, disappointments, hurts, frustration, but also a deep sense of gratitude and determination to beat all odds.

Is there any particular story that stood out?
The positive attitude demonstrated when Yvonne wanted something; job hunting, buying her car, (it helps you to believe that if God makes a promise to His children, He will supply it in Christ Jesus. Also how Yvonne dealt with the situation of her Mom's illness, the courage demonstrated at the point of death, and the sense of peace she spoke about, knowing that her soul is with the Lord.
Would you encourage anyone to read this book, and why?
Definitely so. The book is inspiring and motivating. You just have to finish the book once you have started to read it. There is no greater joy in knowing that the Lord will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory.

How did you find the book?
Inspiring from beginning to end. Congratulations to the author and others who contributed to its publication. The stories were intense and vivid.
What emotions were felt while reading this book?
I had mixed emotions. I was anxious to read every story in the book. The book has 'Bible' based principles and expectations that are based on God's Words. The extensive quotations of the Bible are great. I was also sad and happy, and proud to be associated with the "cast". My overall feeling is supported by the words "all things work together for good to them that love the Lord."
Is there any particular story that stood out?
The summary of the author's care and her relationship to her mother and wider church community, especially the last days of her mother's life is touching - pages 51 - 58.

Would you encourage anyone to read this book, and why?
I have already recommended the book to young people. The inspirational experiences of the author should encourage anyone, in these last days. I would suggest that one reads the book over and over again, looking more carefully for teachings that will be suitable for the reader.

All the articles are interesting and the views expressed by the author and other contributors are based on the teachings of the Christian faith. The author's appendices and extensive listing of Bible verses, pages 1 - 28, are precious to me. Taken together, they provide invaluable lessons for everyone. Congratulations to the author for this book and I pray that hundreds will see and read it. May God continue to bless her.

Andrea Thompson — Kingston, Jamaica

How did you find the book?
I found the book interesting, filled with anticipation of the next story or situations where God gave her a breakthrough. The book is very simple and easy to understand which makes the situations very real. It shows Yvonne's strong faith and her love for God that He gives her that breakthrough she desires within each story. What came out of the book is that special relationship between the writer and God and this makes one see the wonders of God and how He comforts His people. That amazes me in a simple way.

What emotions were felt while reading the book?
The book appeals to your personal thoughts and experiences with God. The power of prayer — how it works in your everyday life through simple things like "just wanting that mango" and it was granted.

Is there any particular story that stood out?
The stories were very real and spoke to faith. I found the story about her friend Elaine most interesting. Elaine did not live, but a miracle was performed, God's will, faith and endurance were displayed at its highest point for me in the book. God is wise and for me this story made me think a lot and accept death as God's will. A breakthrough came but not what we were expecting — for Elaine to recover from cancer but it came through when God mend her broken leg so that we all could understand the power of prayer and that was the real breakthrough.

Would you encourage anyone to read the book and why?
Yes, I would encourage all to read this book. It will strengthen the weak in their faith. It helps to build that unique relationship with God, and for some it shows how one can have that relationship through the simple things in life. The book is filled with inspirations for those who are looking for that breakthrough and how to make it possible with trusting, and trusting in God.

"Everything went well. I am so proud of you, tears came to my eyes hearing all those wonderful speeches. Sorry I did not give one as I am on the very shy side. God has really brought you through."

Judith Lambert

"It was a pleasure to be a part of such a magnificent moment!!!!!

I was delighted to be a part of this book launch and I can also identify with some of the same struggles /situations highlighted in the book.

As we all experience challenges and tough situations, we need somethings in life to provide us with a balance.

This book will spread a positive message which may help many who have battled with depression to be empowered to continue living their lives.

Because with GOD all things are possible."

Marsha Christian

"The launch is the best I have attended. It was different from the others in that the focus was at a different level: the celebration of the human spirit at a highly personalized pitch - like the soaring of the eagle as described in the Scriptures: "they that wait upon the Lord... will mount up ..". It was a celebration of your mounting up.. and the potential of the book to take others with you to higher heights. The Programme was well planned and executed, and I hope it will bear all the fruits you wish for. Mrs. Watson (my mother-in-law) has been glued to it since yesterday. It was my pleasure to have shared in that historic event."

Bro Fitz

"I am very proud of your achievements. I was privileged to be invited to the Book Launch. It was a memorable occasion which I will cherish for the rest of my life. I felt so blessed to have been invited and shared at such a World Premier Launch of Dont Give Up.

The book exceeded my expectation and you are ready to pursue your Ph.D and you must give it serious thought. The experiences you shared in the book are similar to some I experienced when I came to Kingston. I went to work at a bank and I got an increase after 3 months and went home and told my landlord and by the next month my rent was increased. I could not turn on her radio and when I bought my radio she came to examine if I was using her electricity.

When you mentioned that you named your first car Faith and how your land lord responded, it brought back memories of my Lada named "Blessings".

Your visit to your mom instead of going to the Camp showed your love and devotion and made me realize that you are SPECIALLY created by God.

Many of the bible verses mentioned are those which I have depended on during my many challenges and I have proved that "God never fails". He has come through time and time again.

God is good all the time.

Have a blessed evening and we need to remember each other in our prayers.

Derrick Tulloch
