About the Book
DUCKonDECK is the True Story of the life of a Baby Duck that is rescued from his broken shell and nursed to become a full grown Wood Duck. The story covers the seven weeks of his life*s adventures with a 16 pound Siamese cat, named Mars, in a Historical Colonial Home (1819) in New England and his rehabilitation at the New England Wild Life Center. The story is written from the Duck*s point of view of the world that includes his home in a Laundry Basket and then in a Chiquita Banana Box, and the stainless steel swimming pool where he eats the centers out of cucumber slices. The book is illustrated with digital pictures. Primarily the story is for children, but many adults have read it and enjoyed it. They have requested a copy for their children or their grand children.
About the Author
The Author is a Semi-retired Senior Sales Executive whose career has been totally involved in the computer industry. He was initially a Field Engineer and later worked in Sales for several companies. He grew up in New England outside of Boston and worked on farms during the summer. After high school he enlisted in the US Air Force and became an A&E Mechanic on SAC B-36 Airplanes. Upon discharge, he attended Arlington State College, in Texas, on the GI Bill and graduated in 1956.
His fondness for animals developed at an early age. His wish, as a boy, was to be a Dairy Farmer. While working in Texas for a Major Computer Company he raised Angus cattle, sheep, goats, and kept many hives of honey bees. He currently is an avid sailor with his wife on their Block Island 40 sailboat - Circa 1958.
The story of DUCKonDECK was inspired by chance, when the egg of the baby duck fell from a tree and cracked open at the bottom of their driveway. Our experiences with raising the baby duck created the need to write the story. The author and his wife are contributing members to the WWF. It was a wonderful experience.
