About the Book

Georgie is a lonely puppy that sleeps in a recycling bin. When a lady in a big house adopts him, he feels even more alone. But soon he meets Sugar, an amazing bird who sings to him from high on a shelf. But to see Sugar, Georgie has to do something he didn't know he could do...he has to learn how to fly!

Georgie the Flying Dog is an easy reader that promotes early childhood literacy. Kids will love this whimsical story of Georgie the flying dog while readers, both young and old alike, will love the deeper messages in the book about confidence-building, belief in oneself, and the idea that anyone willing to try can make their dreams come true.

This book will enchant and delight parents seeking to make reading an important part of their children's lives while putting forth the message that the bonds of friendship can evolve in unexpected ways between anyone, even those who are very different from us. And so, Georgie, a dog, befriends a bird despite their differences of species and ability while reminding us to dream big and shoot for the stars.

When co-author Caren Haines was raising her son Jonathan Lerman, who is autistic, she observed how hard it could be for him to make friendships feeling "different." Feelings of alienation led to a lack of confidence that affected much in his life. Adopting her puppy Georgie gave her the idea to write a children's book full of easy rhymes and musicality that could stress the idea that friends can be found in unusual places and also, that once you have a dream, you can attain it despite untold obstacles.

This book includes a CD

A portion of the proceeds of this book will go to support the Central New York Autism Society of America.
