About the Book

How does Marty deal with a broken heart - hard for anyone, but especially hard for an artichoke? An unexpected friend with a tender heart of her own has the answer. This charming tale in verse with enchanting watercolor illustrations is a favorite of children who enjoy its charming characters, clever rhymes, and inclusive message.

About the Author

Josephine Baskin Minow has entertained family and friends with her poetry and verse ever since her childhood. She hatched the idea for Marty, the Broken-hearted Artichoke as a story to tell her children, and developed it into this book as a gift for her husband, Newton Minow. The reading program Reach-Out-and-Read selected it for then-First Lady Hillary Clinton to read aloud during her visit to Chicago. Now a grandmother as well as mother, Jo Minow is a life-long Chicagoan, active in civic leadership and arts organizations.
