L'auteur naquit et grandit au Cap-Haitien, dans le Nord d'Haiti. Elle s'établit aux Etats-Unis en 1964 avec son mari, et ils ont depuis vécus en California, à Los Angeles.

Born in Cap-Haitien, Northern Haiti, the author grew up in Haiti. She came to the United States in 1964 with her husband and they have made their home in Los Angeles, California, where they have lived ever since.
