About the Book

This book is about Jim, an eight-year-old second grade boy. Jim's imagination sends him to the North Pole. When he arrives, the first thing he observes are penguins. Penguins are everywhere. Many penguins are walking around on snow-covered earth that looks like white sugar carpet. In Jim's dream and imagination, curious penguins came from the South Pole to the North Pole to explore.

Curiosity has aroused one penguin and it comes close up to Jim as if he wants to talk. Jim talks to the penguin using repetition and rhyming. Jim is just as curious about the penguin as the penguin is about Jim. Jim asks the penguin many questions.

Jim watches the bold penguin's bobbing head and funny movements as he waits for the penguin to answer his questions. Since there are no answers from the penguin, Jim decides to say goodbye. He returns to the place that he knows best, and that place is home sweet home.
