Hey, There's No Violin in this Case!: Life with 7 M's

by Louise Holland

290 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #06-2790; ISBN 1-4251-1031-2; US$21.74, C$25.00, EUR17.86, £12.50

This warm, often humorous, 40-year collection of letters describes the happy challenges of raising a family of seven who share their music in dozens of settings.

About the Book

In an attempt to bring some order into the happy chaos that surrounds a large family, Louise Holland started recording family anecdotes in a series of letters forty years ago. Louise, a piano teacher, and her seven children, all of whom play piano and violin, shared their music in hundreds of concerts over a period of 20 years, thanks largely to the support and encouragement of her husband and their father, Bruce. The challenges involved in balancing this musical involvement with school, church, sports, and small businesses are shared, with much love, warmth, and humour.

About the Author

Louise Holland has lived in Victoria, BC, all her life. After seven years of teaching elementary school, she began teaching piano and beginning music classes in 1967, the year the first of her seven children was born. Thanks to an incredibly supportive husband, she has maintained a full schedule of teaching, as well as working with her own children on both piano and violin, until the present. Most Sundays find her in church, at either organ or piano. For the last forty years, she has enjoyed recording her large family's activities, as well as making observations on her faith and her love of natural beauty.
