About the Book
My Journey is a true story about the life of the author and the village where he grew up. In 1940, the Italians started war with Greece and in 1941, Germany invaded Greece. In 1944, the Greek Rebels started a civil war and it went on until 1949. The Country was in a state of severe depression. From 1945-1950 the United States came to the rescue of Greece supplying it with food, money and clothing and trying to get it back on it's feet.
About the Author
The author was born in a tiny village in the mountains of Greece. He was one of six children, the second oldest. The family was very poor and had limited funds. Whenever they needed staples such as flour, sugar, etc. it took 2½ days to go to the closest city and 2½ days on return to the village. At the age of 22, he joined the Greek Army and at age 29, he came to the United States. His first job was in a factory where he earned $1.16 per hour and did not speak a word of English. He sent 90% of his weekly pay home to his family for 5 years.
