About the Book

William North was a successful industrialist, possibly thinking he had been there and done just about everything. A WWII veteran that endured a boring side of the war stationed at a refueling and repair station in North Africa. He and his cohorts spiced up the action by repairing and modifying a wrecked C-46 air transport. They kept things entertaining by arming it with a captured German artillery piece, an 88, as well as some 20 mm cannons from disabled allied aircraft. They would at every opportunity harass the Nazi general, Rommel's armor and troops with strafing passes with the modified C-46. Rommel either knew better than to attack the heavily defended fuel depot, or wouldn't be bothered by the gad fly C-46. When the war ended, Bill North, with some of his comrades used their mechanical genius to found North Industries. North Industries became a success, Bill married, raised a family and also raised a little hell with some of the East Los Angeles juvenile delinquents who cruised in the East LA scene. He took some under a stern, tough wing to bond some strong family-like relationships. As Bill aged and got just a tad bored with the business side of North Industries, he joined with a Vietnam Veteran on some wild adventures on motorcycles. Bill's bike was of course a "high tech" wonder machine and wheeled him into some adventures that surprised even himself. The other side of his life provided significant funding for a University, and thus took a guiding interest in some of the policies leaning to far too the left. Bill's bike partner, Gary, has his own axes to grind and did so with some swashbuckling talent. Meanwhile Bill, nicknamed LongWheels, did his own brand of swashbuckling and romanced a couple of sweet ladies, Nancy and Ida, on the side. Returning home to tend to business and family affairs, he soon felt the pull of the road and romance. Not a kid anymore, he marveled at the desired from within.

About the Author

William (Bill) McDowell, after thirty five years in design, test and management of military jet trainers and fighters, turns to writing. His novels and short stories draw on a varied background of vocations and avocations beyond the aviation business, including street fighting, cowboying, boxing, race car design, building and driving. He is a World War II enlisted Veteran and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. He is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics as well as an Honorary Life Member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. In recognition of Mr. McDowell's many contributions, he is listed in the Who's Who in Aviation and Aerospace of 1978 and 1983.
