Silver Labyrinth: 60 Poems

by George Dillon Slater

208 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); poetry; catalogue #06-3188; ISBN 1-4251-1429-6; US$28.00, C$32.20, EUR22.00, £16.10

A vibrant collection of poetry spanning forty years and two continents, bringing a sensibility spun with with and a vivid beauty to poems woven through with subtlety and no small amount of wisdom.

About the Book

Silver Labyrinth contains some poems lost for forty years. They were lost in subterranean spaces, the result of having impulsively cast off earthly possessions during fits of episodic jetstream gypsy-ism.

Some did find the light on the page, in magazines and in a collection published in 1976 by Denise Harvey, in Greece. Sinclair Beiles and myself agreed a book equally divided between us, connected by our recent correspondence. It contained very Intriguing letters penned by Sinclair from a desultory London nuthouse, and my replies from the rocky Greek island of Hydra and, our recent poems.

Sinclair was an unbelievable prod in my pursuit of poetry. A critic capable of showing new routes, new paths to the light, a constant friend of generous spirit, a man without ego who's sufferings still make me shudder, well, his presence is within this book too, threading through the labyrinth of days and dreams.

They reflect nights and days in London and Norfolk, Germany and France, the American Northwest, New York, and Greece. They are scattered throughout the book in a random order, as in my life, which has ricocheted around the world in what often seemed a haphazard fashion. They draw from life and do not derive from academic practice or patronage. They aspire to originality foremost, not mimicry. I hope you find some pleasure from them.
