An extraordinary, successful psychologist unapologetically recounts his 24-year crystal meth and alcohol addiction, his David and Goliath battle with his professional regulatory body, and his courageous, revolutionary model of healing.
About the Book
Dr. Paul S. Sussman's story stretches from the streets of Berkeley through San Jose, California, through Ottawa, Ontario to one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Edmonton, Alberta. From the insanity of a full decade of crystal meth addiction to recovery, from crushing poverty to a successful practice in psychology, Taste 4 Chaos chronicles the extraordinary life path of a natural philosopher, healer, and often audacious spiritual warrior.
Early in his career as a psychologist, Dr. Sussman became the first professional in the history of the province of Alberta to successfully quash a guilty verdict from a professional disciplinary body in open court. One unfortunate result is that he has powerful enemies who seek his demise to this day. Taste 4 Chaos is a courageous exposition of his ongoing conflicts with the College of Alberta Psychologists and his critical views of professional regulation in general. Dr. Sussman substantiates his frank and often disturbing positions using his keen grasp of logic and his uncommon life experience.
Taste 4 Chaos is at once an entertaining beat novel, a contribution to philosophy, and a thoroughly documented alternative theory of the causes and conditions that create healing and wellness independent of the specialization and/or training (or lack of it) of the healer. Accessible and engaging, Taste 4 Chaos is without question an entertaining and worthy read.
Dr. Sussman is a licensed psychologist in Alberta, Canada and the State of Georgia. Sussman Psychological is one of the longest established psychotherapy practices in Alberta.
About the Author
Born a dual US-Canadian citizen in Berkeley California, Dr. Paul S. Sussman is a licensed psychologist in the state of Georgia and the province of Alberta, Canada. A 24 year history of intoxicant use beginning with a decade of crystal meth IV push nearly destroyed him. His come-back story gained him the Ph.D. in psychology from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. He is the first professional psychologist in the province of Alberta ever to take a guilty verdict from his regulatory body's discipline committee to the court of Queen's Bench and have it quashed. His radio talk show "Niteshrink" became the top-rated program in its time slot in less than a year. A recipient of the President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to Psychology in Alberta, Dr. Sussman is as much at home in a chaotic atmosphere of controversy and contention as he is in his beloved Buddhist temple.
