About the Author

The first white child born in Molokai, Territory of Hawaii, Stafford-Ames Morse lived in the Hawaiian Islands most of his life.

An avid "rag sailor" ( sail only to some of you ) he has sailed the North and South Pacific , Caribbean Sea and Central America coastline .Using his knowledge of sailing, he skippered of two Sea Scout Ships for youth, was a sailing coach for Kaiser High School on Oahu and served as a Quartermaster and Warrant Officer in the U.S. Coast Guard covering 43 years. He is a holder of a Captain's U.S. Merchant Marine Licenses : Power and Sail.

Photos in black and white has always interested him. In college, he was a freelancer in Hawaii taking photos for The Honolulu Advertiser. Also photos for covers of the "Parade Magazine". His book Tahiti of Yesteryear came about when he had an opportunity to sail to Tahiti with a friend in 1957 and visited the islands for 3 months. Then 5 years later returned to Tahiti and Moorea aboard the USCGC Winnebago

Now retired and living in Seattle, Washington, USA, he has an interest in genealogy and is writing the history of his ancestors to the New World. Stafford is the past President of the Morse Society and currently the President of the Ames Society.
