Stuck with a seemingly bizarre training regime that included running around a heath at night with a tractor tyre tied to him, Duncan eventually gains the fitness that he needs to join the expedition. Braving temperatures of -60°C, he and his fellow companions struggle to get to their destination. Thin ice, broken teeth, frostbitten toes, and the ever-present fear of a polar bear encounter, are all obstacles to overcome. Worse still, he has to get on with a group of lawyers day and night far away from civilization, with only a loaded rifle for security.

Describing the trip of a lifetime, and how the best laid plans began to go awry, Duncan shows why 'In the Arctic the only certainty is the uncertainty'. Duncan Eadie was born into the world on a snowbound night in Buckinghamshire in England, starting a lifelong love with wintry landscapes. He lives in England with his wife, Niamh, and daughter Rebecca.
