Bold, explicit and raw photographs and poetry capturing the tragic effects of Hurricane Katrina upon New Orleans, while taking readers on a spirtual journey of one individual's struggle to heal

About the Book
This is a book of poetry, as well as a book about a woman's journey within and struggle to understand and cope with the devastation and losses suffered by her City, Community and self, during the 2005 Hurricane(s) in New Orleans, Louisiana. Unlike many books of this type, it presents a series of photographs taken during and immediately after Hurricane Katrina, which furthers convey the raw emotions expressed in the poetry through these images. The book focuses not only on the physical damages suffered by this community, but also takes you on a spiritual and thought provoking journey into this tragic event in our Nation's history. It shows the reader vivid images of the impact that this tragic event has had upon our elderly and poor community, (which had been a primary part of New Orleans' history and culture) while demonstrating the need for prayer, healing and recovery in such a unique City.
This book is separated into chapters which shows the evolution and journey beginning with the Big Storm and taking us through it's effects which include displacement, pain, anger onward to rebuilding, reflections and deliverance. While sometimes a bit cynical, when discussing the handling of this catastrophic event in our community by the government, most of the poetry contained in this book contains a stronger message about the role that each of us may play in making our decision to rebuild, recover, heal and move to a more positive place in our lives. It acknowledges and speaks of the forgotten heroes in our community who helped to make New Orleans what it was before the storm, as well as those civilians who went beyond the call of duty during the storm, demonstrating true strength and character by their heroic acts. This book is written to assure that what happened to our community never happens to any other community. Many of the poems in this book were written in New Orleans, Louisiana, immediately following the storms and was provoked by the many images seen in this book or on the National news.
