Poetry Plus: Quest of the Inn

by Shannon Bates with Robert Bates Editor

136 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-1420; ISBN 1-4251-3330-4; US$14.78, C$17.00, EUR11.53, £7.64

Poetry Plus is a book of poetry from the life of a Southern Ontario woman. The language is tame but the themes of the poems may be slightly adult oriented.

About the Book

Shannon Marie Bates wrote her entire life. She would write at any time, day or night, on any topic that popped into her head, on any scrap piece of paper that she could find. More often than not, she wrote about friends and family and what was happening in her life at the time.

The poetry in this book is ordered more or less chronologically in order that the reader can follow her path through life. From her relatively young marriage, through the birth of her children, on through her divorce to her later years with an unrequited love and finally the illness that took her, you will learn more about Shannon than a lot of her friends and family knew while she was alive. The book was dutifully edited and produced posthumously by her eldest son Robert in order to satisfy his mother's final unfulfilled wish. May she now rest in peace.

About the Author

Shannon Bates was born March 11, 1952 in Bracebridge, Ontario to Earl and Beatrice Procunier. The youngest of five children, Shannon grew up with a love of family, friends and writing. Married to Dale Bates in 1969, one of Shannon's proudest achievements were her three boys, Robert, Sean and Paul. After her divorce in 1990, Shannon went on to graduate from the Toronto School of Business as a legal secretary in 1993. Diagnosed with breast cancer in the late 90's, Shannon passed away Jan 21, 2006 with her final wish unfulfilled. Having written volumes of poetry since childhood, her one wish was to publish a book of her own work. Poetry Plus Quest of the Inn is the culmination of that lifetime of writing.
