New York artist/writer Bill Hemp with his pen and ink and colored pencils, has compiled a sketchbook that vividly brings to life Long Beach Island's lore and legends.

About the Book

A Sketchbook of Long Beach Island, on the South Shore of New York's Long Island, a barrier beach washed by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, brings to life through the media of pen and ink and colored pencils, the lore and legends of the communities of Atlantic Beach, Lido Beach, Long Beach and Point Lookout. The windswept island's colorful quilt of history is woven, sewn and filled with images of Native Americans who years ago summered and fished there, whaling vessels, life saving stations, clam boats, railroad and steel barons, real estate tycoons, sugary white sand, a two-mile long boardwalk, elegant beach clubs and luxurious resorts, stars of screen and stage, nostalgic neighborhoods and brick-paved and landscaped streets. The sketchbook contains over thirty color illustrations of public buildings, churches, synagogues, factories, nature preserves, mansions and seaside cottages. All in all, the sketchbook provides the reader a mosaic of Long Beach Island's multi-faceted legends and lore.
