About the Book
Lattie's doctor parents have taken her across the world to Transkei, South Africa for the summer. This land is full of people who speak a rhythmic language very different from her own. She's lonely and doesn't think there is anything for her to do until she goes on her "run of discovery" and finds a rich world, full of new and exciting things.
About the Author and Illustrator
Nadine B. Semer is an experienced plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Los Angeles. She has volunteered her skills performing reconstructive surgery and teaching basic plastic surgical techniques in rural areas of Africa. This story is based on an experience she had on one of her visits to South Africa.
Natasha McConnachie has spent much of her life in South Africa and her paintings and works on paper are greatly inspired by this experience. Vibrant color and richly textured surfaces abound as she communicates both personal and universal stories. Natasha currently teaches life drawing and painting at Red Rocks Community College in Denver, Colorado and credits the New York Studio School in New York City as the cornerstone of her own art education. She went on to complete an MFA in painting from the University of Cape Town in South Africa.
