About the Book

Tamara Frost is an enthusiastic, talented 8 year old with an passion for art. She has a goal to pursue her art and one day become an artist. There is an art contest at school that she enters with hopes of winning the grand prize of a year's worth of art lessons from Montgomery's School of Art. But then one day the unthinkable happens; her uncle sexually abuses her. Her world comes crashing down, and life as she knew it would never be the same. She loses all of her desire to draw and her days are lost in deep depression, confusion, guilt and shame.

Mrs. Snow, Tamara's art teacher, notices the sudden changes in Tamara and takes the initiative to help her by prodding her until the truth comes out. Mrs. Snow is an invaluable person in helping Tamara overcome all of the obstacles that stand in her way of leading a normal life. Together they walk through the steps to overcome the trauma and scars that this experience has left on her. Although her passion for art is gone, Mrs. Snow encourages Tamara not to give up, but pursue her dreams at all costs... and she does. She emerges as winner of the art competition and, like a butterfly, fights her way out of her cocoon of darkness and chooses a life of freedom.
