About the Book

Her Safari describes a dangerous journey by four people through Africa in 1969. A classic travel story, based substantially on real experiences, it recreates the time and the place: illuminating the hopes, fears and tensions of people living in a continent swept by abrupt changes and struggling to break free of the violence engendered by cultural collision. On the long road from London to Cape Town, the well-educated but youthfully naive travellers become fatally entangled in Africa's murderous politics.

About the Author

Mike Jenkinson, born in Sydney, Australia, has always loved to write. He despatched first-hand accounts for an Australian newspaper when he travelled with his wife, Libby, and another couple from London to Cape Town in 1969. The experiences those articles described are the background for Her Safari. While holding demanding day jobs in newspaper journalism and then government communications, Jenkinson had three books published, including two that made Australian non-fiction best-seller lists. He has lived in Tasmania for more than 20 years and recently reorganised his life to give himself more time at his beloved keyboard. The first result, Tasmania to the Letter, was published in 2006 and made the local best-seller list. Her Safari has been a long-term labour of love.
