A Leck In th'Ear

by Anne Morrin

118 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-1917; ISBN 1-4251-4526-4; US$17.96, C$20.65, EUR14.00, £9.28

This non-fiction story tells about growing up in Mayo when work was hard and money was scarce, yet the children were happy, carefree and full of devilment.

About the Book

A Leck in th'Ear is an affectionate look back at life in a small rural village in County Mayo in the 30's and 40's, as seen through the eyes of a child. Its fifteen chapters contain various stories, sometimes sad, oft times funny, but always interesting and informative of a way of life that has long since disappeared into the mists of time.

About the Author

The author, Anne Morrin, now living in Mullingar was born and raised in that same rural village, and has abiding memories of the days when life for the farmers was tough.

She provides an insight into the lifestyle and customs of the people, not just in her own close-knit community, but in the surrounding countryside, when neighbours relied on each other for everything and barter was the order of the day.
