About the Book

In his autobiography Dr. Westney tells of his humble beginning, of his overwhelming determination to surmount obstacles in achieving his life's goals - success in family and professional life, and of his service in his church and the larger community. He informs regarding his migration to the United States of America, and his challenges in obtaining advanced education and specialty training in his field. He shares the joys that he has experienced in the practice and teaching of medicine, in rendering community service and in relating with family, friends and colleagues.

There are six sections and twenty-four chapters in the book. Examples of the titles of some of the chapters are: "My Guiding Principles," "Family Roots,"Socio-cultural Heritage," "Enduring Values of Home," "Reflections on My Migration to the United States," "Her Price Is Above Rubies," "Medical Education and Postgraduate Training," "Practice and Teaching Obstetrics and Gynecology," "On Caring and Sharing," "Opportunities for Service," "Personal Medical Challenges," "The Role of Spirituality in Medicine," "What Others Say About Me," and "Retirement and Projections."

Accounts of Dr. Westney's personal hurdles, coupled with his confidence that God has sustained him all the way, should stimulate assurance in others. He is particularly hopeful that the message of his book will inspire young men and women to pursue excellence, in spite of obstacles and transient disappointments along the way.
