About the Author
Two Moons lives in the mountains of rural New Mexico with her husband Tomas and cats Karma and Zen. They live in an off the grid home, powered by the sun and wind, that they designed and built themselves. Their lives revolve around sustainable practices, creative endeavors, and extensive vegetable, fruit and herb gardens.
Born in Toronto, Canada, Two Moons relocated to Michigan, U.S.A. in 1967. A great part of her life was influenced by the words of Henry David Thoreau, "to live deliberately and front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
In the early seventies Two Moon's operated a home-based food cooperative, and later for six years managed a Natural Foods Cooperative store. She raised seven children, has home birthed, homesteaded, and was a home schooling mom for twenty years starting in the late nineteen seventies; and for five years hosted monthly women's moon lodges and vegan potlucks.
Two Moons is a self-taught herbalist, fiber and mosaic tile artist, architect and house builder, with numerous health related degrees, including that of Naturopath and Lymphologist. Her cookbook Peace In every Bite is the result of almost forty years of experimentation with vegetarian and vegan cooking.

"Many of you, like me, may not have the courage as yet to have arrived at vegetarianism as a total way of eating. No matter. "Peace in Every Bite" by Two Moons, N.D., has much to offer. I found this ample +300 page book to be full of information and surprises. One of the surprises, was that I did not have to throw out all the food and utensils in my kitchen to commence a move toward veganism. For less than fifty bucks, I could supplement my pantry with more healthy grains and other food products which undoubtedly enrich any lifestyle.
The recipes are interesting, fun and for the most part, simple to prepare, but I discovered more. I find myself using the book as a source of both understanding and preparing myriad healthy products, as abundantly seen in the "Charts and Instructions" section and "Guidelines, Tips, Charts and Miscellaneous".
Throughout we are challenged, often not so gently, as in the quote from John Robbins at page 10: "If Americans reduced their meat consumption by 10 percent, enough grain would be saved to feed sixty million people. That is close to the total number of people who die of hunger-related disease each year". I like that. It is a compelling prod of conscience that encourages me to move forward without beating me into submission to accept complete veganism.
The book is simple and understandable, not demeaning or demanding. Its greatest virtue for me is in its wisdom and resources. As is stated in the blurb, "a reference book for healthy lifestyles and sustainable practices". It also has a recipe for the finest, richest chocolate cake ever to pass your lips."
