Under This Sun

by Frank Neufeld with Marlene Gott Elliott

280 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-2134; ISBN 1-4251-4936-7; US$19.77, C$19.77, EUR13.51, £10.21

A story of inspiration as the Neufelds were condemned for their political and religious beliefs. A personal account of their terrifying escape suffering hunger, fear, floods and severe cold. A 23 year journey from tyranny to freedom.

About the Book

I am relating to you about the struggles faced by my parents, brothers, sisters, and me during the long escape from Communist Russia. This is how life was lived during the period from 1888-1927, knowing nothing about electricity or gas powered machines. We only knew of man's brute power and the best he could provide in a primitive way. This was our harsh daily life as we lived it as exiles in Siberia.

Russian army officers tell Helena, my Mother, "The wolves will get your baby in the Siberian Tundra." I nearly gave away our identity when we tried to sneak out of Siberia.

Everyday problems brought with it the laughter and tears of raising a large family.

What could be done, when Jake and Corney find they were tricked by Russian military?

They survive a daring escape across the Amur River not knowing where to go on the other side. It takes two years to acquire visas to "somewhere" while living among the Chinese.

The Neufeld's constant prayer, hope, and faith in God, guides them out of religious oppression into the freedom of America.
