Sarah - Twice Removed

by Iris Coussens-White

261 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-2624; ISBN 1-4251-5820-X; US$18.87, C$18.87, EUR12.89, £9.74

Sarah's story is based on true events surrounding her double evacuation and those times in between, which took place during the six years of World War II.

About the Book

In 1940, one year after war was declared, Sarah, then a child, had her life changed forever. The story follows Sarah, as she grows from a child into a young woman, with a head on her shoulders far older than her years. It tells of Sarah's adventures, and her misadventures from 1939, during her first and second 'removals' until the end of the war in 1945. Sarah hated the words 'evacuation' and 'evacuee', so she was 'removed from danger', which she liked much better.

About the Author

Iris Coussens-White was born in Hastings in 1929, where she has lived all her life, apart from being 'removed' (evacuated) twice during World War Two. After leaving school at fourteen years old, she worked as a Bookkeeper/Cashier in a shop and then in hotels, until marrying in 1948. In 1978, she qualified as a Teacher of English and worked in a Language School in Hastings until 2004 when she retired due to illness. Writing has always been her great passion and she found it to be the perfect therapy after suffering from a stroke.
