About the Book
A young lad used to the rural life in the country, wishing to change his lifestyle, enlisted into the army in 1936. Joining the Royal Corps of signals, he spent five years serving in the deserts of North Africa, from the time of the Munich crisis in 1938, until the capture of Tunis in 1943. After which he was engaged in the Salerno landings in Italy, he also landed on the Normandy beaches on D-Day, for the liberation of Europe from the Nazis. He was with the famous "Desert Rat" division, the 7th Armoured Division which was formed in the desert of North Africa in 1940, to combat, firstly the Italians, and then the Germans under Rommel, in the epic struggles against the axis powers. The majority of the time being spent in charge of the nerve centre of the Division and working with Generals and other high-ranking officers.
About the Author
Len Burritt now in his 89th year, finished writing his first book in 2006. After completing 10 years in the services with the colours, he returned to life in the country, this time as a Country Estate Manager until his retirement in 1983. At the age of 85, he was presented with his first computer, and attended courses at the local college, obtaining seven certificates for achievement in the use of the machine. He is currently writing the second part of his life story and hopes to finish by his 90th birthday. He now lives at Binfield in Berkshire.
