by Ann Lewis
111 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-2790; ISBN 1-4251-6126-X; US$19.37, C$19.37, EUR13.23, £10.00
A self-coaching guide for people recovering from confidence-draining setbacks at work. It gives seven steps to getting back on track, reducing emotional damage and minimising the likelihood of future derailment.
About the Book
Many bright, capable people go through a confidence-draining experience at work and do not share it with anyone because of their fears of what others will think, and of how they will be perceived. They feel isolated with the problem, and it causes huge distress. If you have experienced this then this book is written for you.
If your confidence is compromised by what is going on in your working life, you can do something about it, and you can emerge stronger. You may not be able to change the circumstances, but you can choose how you respond to them.
Getting Back on Track acts as a virtual coach, encouraging you back towards self-belief, confidence and the positive emotions that will fuel a full recovery and literally get you 'back on track'. You will understand what is going wrong, and get really clear about what you want from the situation and from your life. And you can start taking action right now to recover your self-belief and effectiveness. I will show you how.
The book is built around the real stories of people - my clients and others - who have gone through, and recovered from, some really challenging and difficult events at work. Throughout the book they reflect on what was happening for them, how they recovered and what they learned.
Getting Back on Track will help you to inhabit again the fully functioning persona you had before your setback occurred, and with greater awareness and resilience.
About the Author
Ann Lewis is a leadership coach working with Chief Executives, Directors and Senior Managers who want to lead their organisations through being true to themselves. Ann is an experienced coach and facilitator, and an Academy of Executive Coaching Accredited Professional Executive Coach. Back on Track is her contribution to encouraging leaders to take the learning from past experience, to build the courage to become who they are and to live and lead with passion and purpose. Her clients include charities, membership organisations, private companies and the public sector.
Ann's company, Ann Lewis Coaching, was founded in 2002, and she has since worked with many clients who have experienced emotionally challenging setbacks at work, whether through bullying, stress or the dark side of organisational politics. Her compassionate approach to supporting their recovery ensures both that her clients emerge with a clear sense of their strengths and values, and that they take on board the learning that will help prevent future similar setbacks.
Previously a Human Resources professional, initially in manufacturing companies including Beecham Pharmaceuticals (now part of Glaxo SmithKline), Ann worked for 16 years in the Third Sector. Between 1993 and 2002, she was Director of Human Resources for the children's helpline ChildLine and for the Peabody Trust, London's biggest and oldest housing association. She lives on the south coast of England and enjoys spending time with friends, walking, photography, France and French, and garden birds. She is learning to cycle again after a very, very long gap, and loving it.
