To Die For: The Physical Reality of Conscious Survival

by James E. Beichler, Ph.D.

436 pages; quality trade paperback (softcover); catalogue #07-2808; ISBN 1-4251-6167-7; US$27.00, C$27.00, EUR18.44, £13.94

After many centuries, science has finally progressed to the point that it can begin to consider the theoretical possibility of an 'afterlife'. To Die For tells this story about science.

About the Book

Paradoxically, the greatest question ever asked in the history of human thought is completely ignored by the human race’s greatest accomplishment of thought, science. Yet the lack of science to even consider the possibility of an afterlife and ask ‘What happens when we die?’ is not an accident. It was planned and has been the accepted position of science since the founding of science as an independent discipline. So science has never developed the intellectual or conceptual tools to even deal with the concept of an ‘afterlife’. However, the recent scientific study of nature has produced two barriers to the continued progress of science: Understanding the ultimate nature of either matter or consciousness and the relationship between them. Yet answering these questions directly and logically implies that consciousness could survive death.

To Die For tells the story of how science came to this impasse and how human thought has attempted to deal with these issues before, even while science has tried its best to avoid them. But more importantly, this book offers a scientific solution to the problem of consciousness and the survival of consciousness when the material body dies. A simple physical theory of reality is presented that explains both matter and consciousness, although the explanation of consciousness and the survival of consciousness is emphasized. Only science can determine if this theory is valid or not, but if not this theory is still very close to what that final theory would look like. In any case, another scientific revolution is coming. History alone tells us that fact. Not only will science explain matter and consciousness, but also it will recapture the right to study life and the afterlife from religion, vastly altering the shape of human culture and society within the very near future. This book, To Die For, presents a picture in words of what has been and what is to come, where we have been, where we are now, and where we, as humans, are going.

About the Author

Dr. Beichler has been teaching physics, mathematics, physical science, and the history and philosophy of science as well as other related subjects at the college level for the past quarter of a century. He has traveled around the world and spent four years in Europe during his tenure as a teacher. He has earned advanced degrees in Physics as well as the History and Philosophy of Science. In 1999, Dr. Beichler received the only doctoral degree ever awarded in the discipline of Paraphysics from an accredited University. His work in Paraphysics included his previous studies in Physics and the History and Philosophy of Science as well as new studies in Parapsychology and Human Consciousness. He completed his doctorate in this subject in 1999 with the dissertation The Paraphysical Principles of Natural Philosophy.

Dr. Beichler’s belief in the survival of consciousness and various aspects of the paranormal do not stem from personal experiences. His beliefs are derived solely and completely from his basic scientific worldview and convictions. Dr. Beichler believes that ESP and PK phenomena as well as the survival of consciousness are logically required by the laws of nature as represented and studied by scientists. Even so, Dr. Beichler’s main area of research is not the paranormal. This branch of theoretical research is an offshoot and consequence of his broader researches toward the unification of science under a single theoretical structure that will completely, or at least as nearly complete as is humanly possible, explain the physical reality that we all experience. Toward this end, Dr. Beichler has developed a theoretical model of reality based upon an Einstein-Kaluza five-dimensional space-time continuum. He has made numerous presentations on these subjects before professional, scholarly and other audiences and has published numerous papers on his ideas. Dr. Beichler has recently embarked on theoretical research in the area of cosmology, where he is now making remarkable progress explaining both Dark Matter and Dark Energy. Dr. Beichler’s work is available over the Internet where he publishes Yggdrasil: The Journal of Paraphysics.
