About the Book

A young girl and her father decide to spice up the summer a little by embarking on a great adventure - a trip to the moon. Well, it's not like you can just go buy a rocket at your local market, so Isobel and her dad have to build one first. Building the rocket becomes the first adventure. And getting there includes some misadventures. Like when Isobel's dad missed a turn in space and almost went to Mars instead.

Finally Isobel and her dad arrive on the moon. A day on the moon proves to be especially amazing for Isobel who meets a young moon girl whose name is Maya. The two become fast friends. Maya shows Isobel all around the moon, making stops at the Luna Moth Museum and the Moon Pie Factory. They play hide and seek in the craters and explore Mons Huygens (the highest point on the moon). Maya tells Isobel all about life on the moon. And Isobel tells Maya all about life on Earth.

After a day filled with fun and thrills and newfound friendship the two little girls must say goodbye. Isobel and Maya promise that they'll write to each other and that someday, Maya will visit Isobel at her home in North Carolina.

About the Author and Illustrator

Stephen Raburn

Stephen Raburn may have never been to the moon (yet) but everyday with his two little girls is an adventure.

"Isobel and Her Dad Take a Trip to the Moon" was made up on the spot during bath time for his oldest daughter. She liked it so much he decided to write it down so other children could enjoy it.

Stephen Raburn's background and training is in the field of child psychology. He is known as a fierce advocate for the rights and needs of children and has spent most of his adulthood leading child-serving nonprofit organizations. Along the way, he has written dozens of articles (most of which have a more serious tone than this book) that have appeared in newspapers, magazines and professional journals. This is his first children's book. Expect more (lots of requests for stories at bath time).

Proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to children's charities.

Along with his two little girls and German Shepherd puppy, Stephen and his wife Ragini live in Durham, North Carolina.
