A profound emotional journey spanning Dale's dazzling singing career from his cantorial debut at age 9, through World War II, Vaudeville, the early days of Las Vegas, and Broadway.

About the Book

Singer Dale Lind, recording artist, vaudevillian and cantor, takes readers on a profound emotional and nostalgic journey that moves from the 1920's to the present.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish immigrant parents, Dale was tutored in singing by his father, famed Cantor Joshua Lind. At nine, Dale was hailed as "the world's youngest cantorial prodigy." Emerging from tenement living, Dale and his brothers, Murray and Phil, formed a singing trio in 1937. In an era when radio, vaudeville and night clubs were the main venues of entertainment, "The Three Lind Brothers" starred in them all.

As a GI in World War II, Dale witnessed the horrors and ravages of war, including the invasion of the Philippines. In stories soaring with emotion, Applaudience tells of the return of General MacArthur to Leyte Island, the signing of the Peace Treaty in Japan, and the Lind Brothers' post-war performance for the Emperor.

Entertaining thousands of troops with superstars like Danny Kaye and Betty Hutton, the brothers won the fame that catapulted them into headlines after the war. They went on to star in Las Vegas, Hollywood and on Broadway.

Full of historical photos, Applaudience reveals the drama and passion of performing against a backdrop of anti-semitism, jealousy, and hypocrisy.

After 30 years, Dale returned to Chicago as a solo performer and cantor. Labeled, "Born To Sing," he thrilled thousands of followers with his shows and recordings of Yiddish, cantorial and American classics.
