"A kick-ass woman is a lot more fun than a helpless woman," says Don Coldsmith, Kansas author of historical western novels. The women featured in Gutsy Women are definitely his kind of women.
About the Book
Gutsy Women is about sixteen extraordinary women who have faced adversity with perseverance and humor. Many of the women grew up during the Great Depression, which contributed to their fierce desire to not only endure, but succeed by rising above trials and disappointment. You'll be amazed at their accomplishments. Although the lifestyles of women today may be very different from those in this book, they faced many of the same challenges. These trials were family illness, death of loved ones, loneliness, and fi nancial insecurity. You will laugh, cry, and ponder life's unique twists as you gain insight into the lives of these delightful women.
About the Author
Doris is the second of the Esther and Robert Imhof children. She lives at rural Abilene, Kansas, with her husband Alvin. She and Alvin are the parents of five adult children. After her retirement from teaching gifted children, Doris pursued her hobbies. These are writing, cooking, traveling, gardening, reading, sewing (especially quilt making), and best of all spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Doris's enthusiasm for writing Gutsy Women came from her desire to help children, especially girls, become all they can become. She thought of excellent and unique women role models in her life and the characteristics they possessed. Out of that grew the idea and material for this book.
Doris has co-authored two other books, As I Remember It and Apron Strings and Family Ties. These books are biographical works about her mother's life. It is rural history at its best from 1915-1996. They are both very entertaining and a 'must read'. She is the author of a children's book, The Cookie Crumb Trail.
